Sergeant Breonna Moffett, U.S. Army, enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve after graduating from Windsor Forest High School in 2019 at only seventeen. In school, she was a drum major and was a resolute member of the JROTC. In the Reserves, Moffett was a Specialist, just like her mother before her.
Moffett was serving as a Horizontal Construction Engineer with the 718th Engineer Company in Jordan, aiding in the containment of ISIS near the Syrian border. On January 28, 2024, an armed drone hit a housing unit at Tower 22, killing three U.S. Army reservists, including Sergeant Breonna Moffett, and injuring forty-seven others in the explosion.
Moffett was posthumously promoted from Specialist to Sergeant in recognition of her exceptional courage, dedication, and leadership during Operation Inherent Resolve. She was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with “C” Device, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, Army Service Ribbon, and a Combat Action Badge.
U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Kevin Gupton, who recruited Moffett to join the Army Reserve, shared, “Before she decided to raise her right hand and serve, she was already a natural leader… She had the distinct ability to lead her peers, lead in any social situation she had, and she made people feel seen and heard.”
