In a recent survey shared by the National College Attainment Network, 24% of college students who are parents reported missing class due to not having childcare. 34% said that if they lost access to childcare, they would be forced to reduce their courseload or fully drop out of school.
Elizabeth, a U.S. Navy veteran, was struggling with the cost of childcare while enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program.
Elizabeth was committed to advancing her career through higher education attainment yet found that the cost of childcare put her at risk for missing classes and often kept her from attending professional networking conferences and events. Luckily, another veteran shared our childcare program with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth credits the program with preventing interruptions to her schooling and allowing her to attend a student conference where she was able to build invaluable relationships.
The assistance also helped bridge the gap caused by her reduced GI Bill benefits and her husband’s reduced wages over the winter. As a mother of three children, the assistance made a significant impact on Elizabeth’s family:

Our childcare assistance program allows veterans not only to persist in their degrees but affords the opportunity to engage in programs that further their professional and personal development. Without this assistance, Elizabeth may have been forced to delay graduation and miss out on building sustaining networks.
