Sergeant Lakeshia M. Bailey, U.S. Army, developed a love for the military at an early age, traveling around the world while her father was in the service. When she graduated from Spencer High School, she followed in her father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Army.
According to Sgt. 1st Class Allen Battle, who served with Bailey in 2007 during her first Iraq deployment, she was fearless around Iraq’s worst criminals. He said, “when I say tough, she would take grown men down to the ground. That’s how strong she was and how committed she was to her job.”
On March 8, 2010, Sgt. Lakeshia M. Bailey and her good friend Sgt. Aaron M. Arthur were killed in a vehicle rollover crash north of Al Kut, Iraq. Bailey was just 23 years old.
Bailey was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.
