As of July 2026, there were 7.1 million people in the U.S. who were unemployed. While many pursue unemployment benefits to address income gaps during unemployment, the amount of benefits available is limited, as is the duration these benefits are paid out.
Amid seemingly universal layoffs across industries, Lisa, a U.S. Army veteran, was laid off after years with the same company. Lisa began working to reestablish her professional momentum. In the meantime her unemployment benefits fell short in covering the income gap and she was beginning to draw down on her savings.
