This past holiday season, more than half of U.S. adults struggled to afford the gifts they wanted to share with their loved ones. Inflation and the rising cost of living meant that families found themselves forced to make tough decisions between necessities and creating meaningful holiday moments.
For Catherine, a Navy veteran and mother of three, as the holidays approached, the stress of balancing her budget became overwhelming. After years of service and amid the challenges of transitioning out of the military, she was facing the reality that she might not be able to provide gifts for her children, and worried they would go without the joy that the season brings. She reached out to FFWW last fall to find a way forward.
“Receiving support from FFWW impacted me in so many ways. I never thought creating a budget could make such a difference. It allowed me to see which areas we spend the most on and find ways to downsize to cut our costs. Through FFWW, I received financial assistance and holiday gifts and had a better handle on my budget. It truly helped to have gifts for my children and put that money toward other necessities and bills.”
Thanks to our programs, Catherine was not only able to give her children the joy and warmth of the holiday season but also to prepare for a more stable future. Through financial education and assistance, she entered the new year with a renewed sense of control over her finances.
